Search Engine Optimization (SEO) on a general note, is a way of getting your blog ready to be searched as well as your articles or posts to be displaying on Search Engines. Popular Search Engines for instance, Google, Bing, Yahoo, e.t.c, delivers articles from different blogs to their website users when they search a keyword related to such article. Each of the Search Engines has its own  algorithm through which it decides which blog or website comes out when a particular keyword is searched for. The algorithm used by these Search Engines decides which website comes first, second, and e.t.c, during a search, that’s to say, the algorithm decides which blog or site shows on the first or second, e.t.c, page of the searched result. Which means that there is high competition between blogs while writing articles for Search Engines. For your site or blog to be among the first to be displayed, you must engaged in proper Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

Note; if you’ve not read our previous articles or posts on “What You Should Know Before Blogging”, “How To Blog As a Beginner”, “How To Creat a WordPress Blog”, “How To Create Blog Posts and Add Pages To Your Blog”, dont jump to Search Engine Optimization (SEO), I recommend that you should click on the posts one after the other for easy understanding if you are a beginner.

So as I was saying, that’s why you must ensure you understand the Search Engines Algorithms through which they rank websites and prepare your website to meet up with their algorithm. This will definitely give your blog upper hand by delivering your articles on the first page of the searched result.

The setup process for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) includes;

1. Adding Blog or Site to Search Engine Consoles.

2. Submitting Blog or Site to Sitemap.

3. Installing and Configuring a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Plugin (Yoast Premium recommended).

4. Configuring Yoast for Every Post.

1. Adding Blog or Site To Search Engine Consoles:

The first step to set up Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is by adding your blog to the Search Engine in question, for instance, you are adding your blog to Google Search Engine, first step is to add your blog to “Google Webmaster Console”. You can access the site from

When the page loads, sign up with a Gmail address and add a property (your blog is the property you’re going to add), all you need is to submit your website URL. Then confirm the property you just added. This will tell Google that you actually own the property.

2. Submitting Blog or Site To Sitemap:

After you’ve successfully verify your property, the next thing to do is add a sitemap. To add a sitemap to “Google Webmaster Console”, open the property you have just added from your list of properties, you will be taken to an overview page, from the overview page, find the sitemap tab on the left side of the screen. When the page loads, locate add a new sitemap link and enter “sitemap_index.xml” (excluding “ ”) into the text-area shown. After that, click on submit. This shows that you’ve successfully submitted your blog sitemap and you have made it ready to be searched.

3. Installing and Configuring a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Plugin:

After submitting your blog to sitemap, the next thing you should do is to Install a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Plugin. I will recommend “Yoast Premium SEO Plugin” due to its different functions, the setting up is very easy especially for WordPress users. Some of these functions are, Keyword Suggestions, Related Articles Link Suggestion, Setting up of every pages to meet up with Search Engine Algorithm, among others. Yoast Premium Plugin is not free, you will pay for the premium. If you cant afford the premium version, you can consider using the free version made available on the plugin page of your WordPress dashboard. After installation and activation, click on Yoast from the left-hand side on your screen. Find the configuration wizard and open. You will be required to enter some details about your blog. Click on the next button to make different changes until you can see the done link.

4. Configuring Yoast for Every Post:

In every post you are publishing, you must provide the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) details. At the editor panel, the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) details submitting option will be provided by the Yoast Plugin you have installed, you need to give the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) title and a little description to be displayed for your posts on the Search Engine result pages. Yoast Plugin will also provide keyword writing option, in other for you to add keywords you want the article to have for proper ranking. If you are not sure of what to use as the keyword, check the keywords suggestion provided by Yoast Plugin. Add internal links from a bunch of suggested links provided by Yoast Plugin. I’m sure you can see the reason why I prefer the Yoast Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Premium Plugin. Although the free version doesn’t have all these features, you can manage it for the moment untill you could afford it.
